Lady Bucs Drop Pair to Close Out South Region Crossover

HOOVER, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University volleyball team dropped a pair of contests to close out the South Region Crossover, on Saturday afternoon, at the Finley Center. The Lady Bucs started the day with a 3-2 setback to Rollins, before finishing the day with a 3-0 loss to Florida Tech. 

FINAL SCORE | GAME ONE :
ROLLINS 3 (6-14), CBU 2 (3-14), (25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-8)

WHAT HAPPENED:
After CBU took a 2-1 lead, Rollins had 15 kills in the fourth set and 10 in the fifth to complete the comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rollins had 12 kills and hit .269 to take the first set. 
  • CBU had a big second set, using 14 kills and just four errors, to level the match at one. 
  • The Lady Bucs had a match-high 17 kills, and never trailed by more than a point, to help them take a 2-1 lead.  
  • After CBU took a 15-11 lead, Rollins used a 9-2 run to take a 20-17 lead. The Tars used three kills to win the set, tying the match at two. 
  • Rollins hit .368, and used an 8-2 run to take control of the fifth set to earn the win. 
KEY STATS:
  • Maddi Rowley led the Lady Bucs with 14 kills. 
  • Maysen Bruschke helped the CBU defense with 15 digs. The 15 digs are the second-most of her career (20-Henderson State-9.9.22).
  • Calah Jackson had a career-high four blocks. 
  • Rebecca King finished with a season-high 20 assists. 
  • Tia Rizvi had nine kills, 17 assists and and 11 digs. 
  • The 52 kills tied for the third-most this season. 
FINAL SCORE | GAME TWO: 

FIT 3 (11-9), CBU 0 (3-15) (25-15, 25-15, 25-18)

WHAT HAPPENED:
Florida Tech had 43 kills, with just nine errors, and a .315 hitting percentage to get the win. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first set was all Florida Tech, as it finished with 16 kills and just four errors.  
  • After CBU took a 7-6 lead, the Panthers used a 13-5 run to take control of the set. 
  • Florida Tech had 14 kills and just two errors in the third set. 
KEY STATS:
  • Maddi Rowley paced CBU with seven kills. 
  • Kimmy Hammond led the Lady Bucs with 14 digs. 
  • Calah Jackson finished with three blocks. The freshman has 10 stuffs over the last three matches. 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Friday, Oct. 21 when they host Auburn Montgomery. First serve is set for 6 PM.
