Delta State Defeats Lady Bucs in GSC Opener

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CBU used three makes from long range to help take a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. 
  • Both teams made just five shots in the opening period. 
  • The Lady Statesmen held CBU to just 3-15 shooting, in the second quarter, to help take a 29-24 lead into halftime. 
  • After trailing by as many as eight points, in the third period, the Lady Bucs used an 8-0 run to take a 44-43 lead with 7:23 left. 
  • DSU responded, scoring seven straight, and held a 50-44 lead with 5:43 remaining. 
  • After a made jumper from Yaya Coleman cut the DSU lead to 53-51, with 3:36 left, the Lady Bucs were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.  
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • The Lady Bucs finished the game 16-53 (30 percent) from the floor, including just 3-18 from long range. 
  • DSU shot 23-58 (40 percent), but managed just 2-12 from three point range. 
  • The Lady Bucs were 16-23 from the free throw stripe, compared to 9-15 for the visitors. 
  • The 30 percent shooting for CBU marks its lowest since being held to 26 percent against Henderson State (11.17.21).
  • Emily Jones led the Lady Bucs with a game-high 17 points.
