Lady Bucs Hit Way to Split at Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University softball team combined for 29 runs to split a pair of games at the UAH Charger Chillout, on Saturday, at Sand Mountain Park. The Lady Bucs saw their comeback bid fall just short in a 16-13 loss to Southern Indiana, but bounced back to defeat Miles 16-8 to finish the day. 

GAME ONE: SOUTHERN INDIANA 16 (2-2) CBU 13 (0-5) 

GAME CHANGER:
After CBU scored nine runs, to take a 13-10 lead, in the bottom of the sixth, USI answered with six runs in the top of the seventh. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
The contest featured a combined 29 runs and 31 hits. 
USI finished with an 18-13 advantage in hits. 
CBU had three doubles and two triples. 
Kendall Westbrooks finished 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs
Josie Bond was 1-for-3 with a three-RBI triple. 
Memory Willingham, Reese Earleywine and Mackenzie all finished with two hits apiece. 
Elaina McGill also had a triple. 

KEY PLAYS:
Trailing 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bucs sent 14 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs. 
The Lady Bucs had three extra base hits in the inning, including triples by Bond and McGill. 
USI answered with six runs in the top of the seventh to help earn the win. 
The Screaming Eagles scored five runs with two outs in the inning. 

NOTEABLES:
The four RBIs for Bond are a career-high
The four hits for Westbrooks tied a career-high (Bellarmine, 2.10.19)


GAME TWO: CBU 16 (1-5) Miles 8 (0-4)

GAME CHANGER:
Trailing 5-0 after the first inning, the Lady Bucs outscored the Golden Bears 16-3 the rest of the way to earn the win. A nine run sixth inning helped CBU complete the comeback.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
The Lady Bucs finished the game with a 13-11 advantage in hits. 
CBU had seven extra base hits, including four doubles and three triples. 
Kendall Westbrooks wrapped up her stellar day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two triples and two RBIs. 
Elaina McGill was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. 
Josie Bond and Memory Willingham also drove in two runs apiece. 
The 1-4 hitters in the lineup combined to go 10-for-18 with nine RBIs. 
Relief pitcher Kelsey Wurm allowed two unearned runs, on eight hits, in six innings of work. 

KEY PLAYS:
Miles used an inside the park home run, with the bases loaded, to take a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. 
Trailing 7-3, the Lady Bucs scored three in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-6.
Willingham, Westbrooks and Puckett all had RBI doubles in the inning. 
The Lady Bucs sent 13 batters to the plate in the sixth inning. CBU had four hits in the inning, and took advantage of three errors. 
Wurm allowed just one hit over the final two innings. 

NOTEABLES:
The 16 runs for CBU are its most since plating 17 against LeMoyne-Owen on 2.27.19. 
The six strikeouts for Wurm are a career-high. 
The two triples for Westbrooks are the first of her career. 

UP NEXT:
The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Feb. 13 when they face Young Harris and Tuskegee to wrap up the UAH Charger Chillout. First pitch against YHC is scheduled for 11 AM.
