Lady Bucs Storm Back to Earn Homecoming Win Over Delta State

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team outscored Gulf South Conference foe Delta State 28-18 in the fourth quarter, to help earn a 71-69 comeback victory, on Saturday afternoon, at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs split the season series with Delta State 1-1

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the opening period Delta State held the Lady Bucs to just 5-15 shooting to take a 21-15 lead. 
  • In the second the Lady Bucs managed just nine points to help DSU take a 34-24 lead into halftime. 
  • DSU shot 48 percent (14-29) in the opening half, while holding the Lady Bucs to 29 percent (8-28). 
  • The Lady Bucs offense ignited in the third as they opened with a 14-6 run to cut the deficit to 40-38 with 4:56 remaining in the quarter.
  • DSU finished the period with an 11-5 run to take an eight point lead (51-43) going into the final period.
  • With 5:31 remaining in the game, Karlee Bates hit a fast-break layup to tie the game at 59.
  • DSU trailed by a pair with nine seconds remaining, but missed a game-tying jumper, as time expired, to give the Lady Bucs the comeback victory. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • Emily Jones finished with 25 points and three blocks. The junior was 8-of-15 from the field.
  • Yaya Coleman recorded 20 points, including 6-of-6 from the stripe, and nine boards. 
  • Jeremia Montgomery added 12 points off the bench.
  • CBU capitalized off 15 DSU turnovers, scoring 23 points.
  • The Lady Bucs shot 83 percent from the stripe (20-24) in the contest
  • DSU won the rebound battle 42-30.
  • The Lady Bucs outscored DSU 47-35 in the second half.
