MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University softball team dropped a Gulf South Conference doubleheader to West Alabama, on Saturday, at Bland Field.
The Lady Bucs saw their comeback fall just short in a 16-10 setback in game one, before dropping the nightcap 10-5.
GAME ONE: Tigers 16 (13-12, 5-5 GSC) Lady Bucs 10 (7-18, 1-9 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
The visitors took advantage of eight walks and three CBU errors to earn the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
UWA finished with a 10-8 advantage in hits.
CBU finished with four doubles, including two by
Memory Willingham.
Kendall Westbrooks finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Willingham and
Cara Alexander drove in two runs apiece.
Elaina McGill earned three walks.
KEY PLAYS:
After the Tigers led 5-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Bucs responded with a run in the fourth, and four in the fifth to tie the game.
UWA responded with six runs in the top of the sixth to take an 11-5 lead. The Tigers scored two runs on a wild pitch, and two more via hit by pitch.
The Lady Bucs fought back with five more in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the deficit to 11-10. Willingham and Westbrooks had back-to-back doubles to spark the rally.
UWA finished the game with five more runs in the top of the seventh.
GAME TWO: Tigers 10 (14-12, 6-5 GSC) Lady Bucs 5 (7-19, 1-10 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
The Tigers scored in all but one inning of the contest, taking advantage of five CBU miscues.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
The Lady Bucs were outhit 9-6
UWA had four unearned runs in the contest.
RJ Simpson,
Kendall Westbrooks and
Elaina McGill all hit solo home runs.
Westbrooks and McGill drove in two runs apiece. McGill lead CBU with a pair of hits.
KEY PLAYS:
In the second, the solo home run from Simpson cut cut the UWA lead to 3-1.
After the Tigers took a 5-1 lead in the third, Westbrooks and McGill smacked back-to-back home runs to get the Lady Bucs within striking distance.
A fielders choice ,and an RBI double from McGill, helped CBU tie the game at five, in the fifth.
The Tigers scored five runs the rest of the way, including three in the sixth, to help earn the win.
NOTEABLES:
With her home run in the third, Westbrooks broke the CBU program record. The Milan, Tenn., native now has 17 career round-trippers.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 20 when they wrap up the series with West Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
