CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Christian Brothers University softball team earned a 4-3 victory over Delta State, on Saturday at University Field. The game two victory came after the Lady Statesmen took the opener 5-4.
GAME ONE: DELTA STATE 5 (20-26, 9-16 GSC) CBU 4 (14-31, 8-20 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
Karley Bloesch, of DSU, recorded a game-winning two-run double in the seventh inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
DSU outhit the Lady Bucs 6-5.
The Lady Statesmen took advantage of six walks.
DSU had three extra base hits, including two doubles and a home run.
Ashley Dyer and
RJ Simpson led the Lady Bucs with two hits.
Memory Willingham went 1-for-1 with two RBI's and two walks.
KEY PLAYS:
The Lady Bucs combined for three runs in the first three innings to lead 3-0.
Mackenzie Puckett did not allow a hit through four innings.
MyCala Helms, of DSU, tied the game at three with a 3-run home run in the sixth.
In the seventh, trailing 4-3, Bloesch recorded a game-winning two-run double to take game one.
GAME TWO: CBU 4 (15-31, 9-20 GSC) DELTA STATE 3 (20-27, 9-17 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
With the game tied at three, in the seventh,
Ashley Dyer smacked what proved to be the game-winning home run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
DSU outhit the Lady Bucs 9-7.
Ashley Dyler led the Lady Bucs going 3-for-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored.
Kendall Westbrooks finished with two hits, including a double.
Macy Cumming pitched five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits, with four strikeouts and a walk.
KEY PLAYS:
DSU capitalized on an early Lady Bucs miscue to lead 1-0 after two.
In the fifth, a three-run home run by Dyer gave the Bucs a 3-1 lead.
Taylor Picou, of DSU, tied the game at three with a two-run home run in the sixth.
With one out in the seventh, Dyer launched a go-ahead home-run to give the Lady Bucs a 4-3 lead.
The Lady Statesmen loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but a fly out to center ended the game.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, May 1, when they face Delta State to wrap up the series. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
