Women's Soccer Uses Late Surge to Defeat West Alabama

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University women's soccer team scored two goals in less than seven minutes to help it earn a 2-1 victory over West Alabama, on Sunday afternoon, at Signaigo Field.

The Tigers led the match 1-0 after 75 minutes, before the late heroics from CBU. The result also ended a four-match losing streak against UWA.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
42' | The Tigers struck just before halftime when Sierra O'Grady slotted home a cross from Summer Fox. 
HALF | Both teams finished the opening half with four shots. 
77' | CBU found an equalizer in the 77th minute when Alice Legnedahl curled home a long-range shot past the over the UWA goalkeeper. 
84' | Less than one minute after CBU goalkeeper Chloe Hillyer made a save to keep the score tied, the Lady Bucs scored what proved to be the game-winner when a corner kick from Mya Gargone found Flavia Iorio, who headed it past the keeper. 
90' | CBU held the Tigers to just one shot the remainder of the match.

  • The Tigers finished with an 11-8 edge in shots, but CBU had a 5-4 edge in shots on target. 
  • Iorio has now scored in three straight matches. Her five goals lead CBU. 
  • The goal for Legnedahl was the second of her collegiate career.
