West Florida Uses Big Second Half to Defeat Lady Bucs

MEMPHIS -  West Florida outscored the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team 40-29 in the second half to earn a 73-58 win, on Sunday afternoon, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Chloe Crawford had four early points to help CBU take an 11-8 lead at the midway point of the opening quarter. 
  • CBU finished the quarter on a 7-2 run to take an 18-16 lead into the second quarter.
  • In the first quarter, UWF was just 1-11 from inside the three point line.  
  • The Argonuats held CBU to just 4-17 shooting, in the second quarter, to help take a 33-29 into halftime. 
  • CBU used a 12-2 run to tie the game at 41, with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter. 
  • UWF responded with a 14-4 spurt to take a 55-45 lead to the fourth quarter. 
  • In the final quarter, the visitors held CBU to just 5-16 shooting to hold on for the win. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES 

  • The Lady Bucs finished just 33 percent from the floor (19-58), including just 2-9 from three-point range. 
  • CBU stayed in the game with an 18-24 performance from the free throw stripe.
  • UWF was just 19-54 shooting (35 percent), including just 5-24 from three-point range, but knocked down 30-37 from the charity stripe. 
  • The Argonauts narrowly won the rebounding battle, 40-39
  • Jeremia Montgomery led CBU, as she tied her career-high with 28 points. Montgomery also added a game-high 10 boards. 
  • Tieriney Echols added 11 points and six boards.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Dec. 31, when they travel to Auburn Montgomery. Tipoff is set for 2 PM.
