CBU comes out on top in tense five-set battle at Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a thrilling five-set battle at Trojan Fieldhouse, the Christian Brothers University volleyball team defeated Trevecca Nazarene 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 29-27, 24-26, 15-13) in Gulf South Conference action. The match, which lasted two hours and 25 minutes, showcased impressive performances on both sides as the teams traded momentum until the very last point.

Christian Brothers (7-17, 3-11 GSC) rallied after dropping the opening set to take control in the second and third sets, displaying resilience and efficient offense. Senior Ella Schumacher was a standout with a season-high 23 kills, hitting .465 while also contributing crucial blocks late in the match.

In the decisive fifth set, the Lady Buccaneers found themselves in a back-and-forth exchange with Trevecca. Strong serves from Aileen Zavala, who recorded a career-high six aces on the night, helped set the tone early. Meanwhile, Tia Rizvi and Jordan Allen combined for 21 kills, with Allen matching her career-high of six blocks, while providing a steady defensive front.

Setter Sarah Allyn Thornell orchestrated the offense smoothly, tallying a career-best 51 assists, while also adding a few kills of her own. Christian Brothers capitalized on key defensive stops in crunch moments, highlighted by 17 digs from Sofia Rathheim-Hilton.

Trevecca Nazarene (10-15, 7-7 GSC) battled fiercely behind a 16-kill performance from Emma Titus and strong net play from Reese Payne, who posted 12 points with four blocks. Despite their efforts, Christian Brothers sealed the win with a timely block from Alma Solis and Thornell in the final moments of the fifth set.

This win provides a morale boost for the Lady Bucs as they continue their push towards a postseason berth. CBU's next challenge will be a conference match at home, looking to build momentum off this hard-fought victory.
