CBU shows grit in hard-fought battle against Mississippi College

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers women's basketball team (0-6, 0-1 GSC) showcased resilience and determination in a Gulf South Conference showdown against Mississippi College (5-2, 1-0 GSC) at Canale Arena on Thursday night. Although the final score favored Mississippi College, 62-53, the Lady Bucs' performance highlighted their potential and promise as they continue to develop throughout the season.

1st Quarter: Christian Brothers' Quick Start

  • After falling behind early, Christian Brothers mounted an 8-2 run midway through the first quarter. This surge was fueled by Jada Hood's three-pointer and a key basket from Valencia McFall, showcasing the Lady Bucs' strong perimeter shooting and aggressive defensive effort.
  • This run allowed Christian Brothers to stay competitive and close the quarter down just 17-15.

2nd Quarter: Maintaining Momentum

  • Early in the second quarter, the Lady Bucs went on a 7-3 spurt, with Suni Davis hitting a critical three-pointer off the bench and Jasmine Jones scoring on a smooth mid-range jumper.
  • This run kept the game within striking distance, as Mississippi College's lead was trimmed to just two points (24-22) midway through the period.

3rd Quarter: Mississippi College Pulls Ahead

  • Mississippi College capitalized on a series of turnovers by Christian Brothers to go on a decisive 12-2 run early in the third quarter. This run, driven by fast-break layups and points in the paint, allowed the Lady Choctaws to extend their lead to double digits.
