The Lady Bucs come up short in hard-fought clash with West Alabama

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers women's basketball (0-11, 0-6 GSC) battled hard against West Alabama (1-10, 1-6 GSC) inside the Canale Arena on Thursday evening. Despite a strong effort, Christian Brothers came up short, 76-68, in this high-scoring Gulf South Conference clash.

First Half Recap

The game opened with both teams trading baskets, but West Alabama managed to capitalize on turnovers and strong shooting beyond the arc, ending the first quarter with a narrow lead of 23-22. 

Christian Brothers displayed resilience in the second quarter, led by Tieriney Echols and Jada Hood, who combined for multiple three-pointers. The Lady Bucs outscored the Lady Tigers by two points, 18-16, in the second period to take a slim 40-39 lead into halftime.

Second Half

The third quarter was a 13-13 stalemate in which both teams struggled to score. Hood's three-pointer towards the end of the third period kept CBU ahead by a single point, 53-52, going into the final stanza. 

Despite a valiant effort from Hood, who finished with 20 points and six three-pointers, and Echols, who added 19 points, Christian Brothers was unable to match West Alabama's scoring pace in the fourth quarter. UWA posted 24 points in the fourth period while limiting CBU to 15 points.

Key Players

  • Jada Hood: Led Christian Brothers with 20 points, including six three-pointers, showcasing her sharpshooting abilities. She also dished out eight assists.
  • Tieriney Echols: Contributed a career-high 19 points, five rebounds, and three key assists to keep the game competitive.
  • Valencia McFall: Dropped in 11 points and grabbed five boards to aid in the scoring effort.

Team Highlights

Christian Brothers shot 25-of- 58 from the field and hit 10 three-pointers. They recorded 21 assists as a team, demonstrating excellent ball movement. Despite their efforts, turnovers and a deficit in rebounds (44 to 32) proved costly.

The Lady Bucs will look to bounce back in their next game against Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday.
