Lady Bucs remain undefeated through first four games of season

Game 1: Christian Brothers Shuts Out Northeastern State in Dominant 8-0 Victory

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Christian Brothers softball team put together a commanding performance Saturday morning at Langston Field, shutting out Northeastern State 8-0 to end the contest in five innings.

Junior pitcher Vivian Watts led the way for the Lady Bucs, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out two. Watts (1-0) was in complete control, forcing eight groundouts and five flyouts to stifle the Riverhawks' offense.

Christian Brothers (3-0) methodically built its lead, scoring in each of the last four innings to secure the run-rule victory. The offense was powered by senior Haylee Alberson, who went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a stolen base. Senior Riley Simpson also contributed, tallying two hits, both doubles, and an RBI while scoring twice.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Bucs broke through in the second. Kiera Coulon drew a walk before stealing both second and third. Katelyn Harmon later drove her in with a RBI double to center field, giving Christian Brothers an early 1-0 advantage.
The third inning saw the Lady Bucs extend their lead when Alberson launched a towering two-run home run over the left-field fence, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Christian Brothers continued its offensive surge in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a pair of doubles by Williamson and Simpson to tack on another run. A stolen base by Alberson then allowed SImpson to score from third, stretching the margin to 5-0.
In the fifth, Christian Brothers put the game out of reach with three more runs. Garrison singled through the left side to drive in the first run. Kamryn Neely's sac fly to center allowed the second run to come across. Jessica Gordon then batted in the final run of the game with a single to the gap in right center.

Offensively, Christian Brothers compiled 10 hits and four stolen bases, while their defense remained error-free. Northeastern State (1-2) struggled at the plate, managing just four hits while striking out twice. Starter Braedyn Sheofee took the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits in two innings of work. Madison Heinle came on in relief but was unable to slow the Lady Bucs' relentless attack.

Game 2: Christian Brothers Rallies Late to Defeat Ouachita, Stays Undefeated

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Christian Brothers University continued its dominant start to the season, rallying late to secure a 6-5 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Langston Field. The Lady Bucs improved to 4-0 on the season, capitalizing on a strong offensive surge in the final innings.

Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Christian Brothers chipped away at the deficit before delivering a decisive three-run seventh inning. Senior Summer Alexander played hero for the Lady Bucs, launching a solo home run in the sixth and delivering a two-RBI double in the seventh to spark the comeback.

Christian Brothers tallied 12 hits in the contest, led by shortstop Kiera Coulon, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Alexander finished 2-for-4 with a home run, double, and three RBIs.

The Lady Bucs' offense was held in check early as Ouachita (2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off starter Haylee Alberson. The Tigers extended their advantage with two more runs in the third, chasing Alberson after 2.2 innings.

Senior pitcher Gabby Dickerson (2-0) provided a stellar relief effort, tossing 4.1 innings of one-run ball while striking out six. She limited Ouachita to just four hits, keeping the Lady Bucs within striking distance.

Christian Brothers broke through in the fourth with a two-run rally. Riley Simpson reached on a leadoff single, and Coulon followed with a double to center. A perfectly executed sacrifice fly from Mandie Barrow's infield single with two outs allowed both Simpson and Coulon to score and cut the deficit to 4-2.

Alexander's leadoff blast in the sixth set the stage for the seventh-inning dramatics. With one out, Coulon singled and stole second, putting the tying run in scoring position. Alexander then roped a double down the left field line to drive in Coulon and Alberson. Moments later, Garrison singled down the left field line to bring in Alexander for the go-ahead run, 6-5.

Ouachita threatened in the bottom of the seventh by loading the bases with the first three at bats of the frame. Dickerson buckled down after the shaky start and retired the next three batters to preserve the victory.

The Lady Bucs return to action next Friday, Feb. 7 with the first of five games scheduled for them at the annual UAH Charger Chillout.
