Christian Brothers falls to AUM despite strong third-quarter surge

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team showed resilience in a hard-fought battle against Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) but ultimately fell 70-45 on Thursday night at Canale Arena.

Despite a strong third-quarter push, Christian Brothers (0-20, 0-15 Gulf South Conference) struggled to keep pace with AUM (10-11, 8-8 GSC), which pulled away in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Game Recap

The Lady Buccaneers started strong, taking an early 9-3 lead behind the hot shooting of Jada Hood. However, AUM finished strong with an 8-0 run, and Christian Brothers found itself trailing 16-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Shooting woes plagued the Lady Bucs in the second quarter, as they hit just 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from the field and were outscored 20-9. Meanwhile, the Warhawks converted 50 percent of their shots from the floor to seize a 36-20 advantage at the break.

Christian Brothers showed fight in the third quarter, led by Hood, who poured in 11 of her game-high 30 points. The Buccaneers connected on four of five three-point attempts in the period, outscoring AUM 17-15 and cutting the deficit to 51-37.

However, AUM's depth proved too much in the final frame. The Warhawks' bench contributed 41 total points for the game, and they outscored CBU 19-8 in the fourth quarter.

Notable Performances

Christian Brothers will play Montevallo for homecoming on Saturday next. The Lady Bucs took the Falcons to double overtime when the teams faced off earlier in the season.
