Memphis, TN- Christian Brothers battled Thursday night but couldn't overcome a strong Valdosta State squad, falling 61–35 on the road.
The game actually opened with energy from the Lady Bucs. Early defensive effort set the tone, Emily Sawyer protected the rim, cleaned the glass, and helped CBU grab an early lead midway through the first quarter. The teams traded baskets and the game stayed tight through the opening period, with neither side able to create separation.
In the second quarter, CBU showed its best stretch of the night. Mya Bourget sparked the offense, attacking downhill and knocking down a three to briefly put Christian Brothers in front. The Lady Bucs strung together a scoring run and matched Valdosta State possession-for-possession, heading into halftime within striking distance at 29–23.
Christian Brothers continued to compete in the fourth. Teuila Faalogo battled on the boards, and Sawyer remained active defensively while Bourget kept attacking offensively, but the deficit was too large to erase.
Despite the result, there were positives. The Lady Bucs showed fight early, shared the ball, and had multiple contributors on both ends of the floor. The strong second quarter proved the team can compete when shots fall and defensive pressure creates transition opportunities.
Christian Brothers now turns its focus forward, looking to build on the effort and carry the energy from that competitive first half into its next matchup.
