MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University volleyball put together a strong weekend inside Canale Arena, finishing 3-1 at the 2026 CBU Patriot Day Classic with victories over Southern New Hampshire, Claflin and Miles.
The Buccaneers opened the tournament Friday with a pair of victories before splitting two matches Saturday, including a sweep of Miles to close the weekend. CBU finished the tournament with a 4-7 overall record.
CBU Opens Tournament With Sweep of Southern New Hampshire
The Bucs started the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire, earning set wins of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-17. CBU hit .248 as a team, recording 35 kills against just seven attacking errors while adding nine service aces.
Addison Waggoner led CBU with eight kills, while Alana Martinez added seven. Sophia Nowacki anchored the defense with 20 digs and three aces, while Sarah Helms added four kills, two aces and two blocks.
Bucs Make It Two Straight Against Claflin
CBU returned to the court Friday night and defeated Claflin 3-1 (25-10, 25-19, 17-25, 25-12).
The Buccaneers finished with 47 kills, 12 service aces, 68 digs and eight blocks while holding Claflin to a .083 hitting percentage.
Helms delivered one of the tournament's top individual performances, recording 14 kills on a .545 hitting percentage, three aces and three blocks. Waggoner added 12 kills while hitting .333.
Nowacki continued her strong defensive weekend with 25 digs and three aces, helping the Bucs move to 2-0 in the tournament.
Quincy Edges CBU in Saturday Opener
The Bucs opened Saturday against Quincy and came out firing, taking the opening set 25-19 behind a .421 hitting percentage. Quincy responded in the second before the teams battled through a marathon third set.
CBU pushed the Hawks to extra points before Quincy escaped with a 31-29 victory in the third. The Hawks eventually secured the match with a 25-21 fourth-set win, handing CBU its only loss of the tournament.
Martinez led the Bucs with 16 kills, while Ana Clara Sacca Beltran added 10 kills and four blocks. Alma Solis provided seven blocks at the net.
Nowacki recorded 22 digs, while Emma Pomaret handed out 21 assists. Carleiny Morillo added 16 assists and 10 digs.
Bucs Finish Weekend With Sweep of Miles
CBU responded in the tournament finale with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Miles, winning 25-21, 25-22 and 25-19.
The Buccaneers finished with 39 kills, 37 assists, 59 digs and six service aces while holding Miles to a .085 hitting percentage.
Martinez once again led the CBU attack with 11 kills, while Waggoner added seven and Helms finished with six. Pomaret recorded two aces, while Helms contributed two blocks.
Morillo directed the offense with 15 assists and 12 digs, while Pomaret added 13 assists. Nowacki closed another strong defensive performance with a match-high 20 digs.
The victory gave Christian Brothers its third win of the tournament and allowed the Bucs to close their home event on a high note.
