NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University volleyball showed fight throughout Saturday's Gulf South Conference matchup, taking a set from Trevecca Nazarene before falling 3-1 as CBU Athletics celebrated Homecoming weekend.
The Buccaneers dropped the opening two sets, 25-15 and 25-22, but responded with their best volleyball of the afternoon in the third. CBU hit .375 in the frame and captured the set 25-15 to extend the match. Trevecca answered in the fourth, taking the set 25-19 and the match. CBU finished with 44 kills, 10 service aces, 65 digs and eight total blocks.
Sarah Helms delivered a strong all-around performance for the Bucs, finishing with 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage, three service aces and seven total blocks. Ana Clara Sacca Beltran was efficient offensively with eight kills and just one error on 15 attacks for a .467 hitting percentage, while Alma Solis added six kills on 12 attempts and hit .417.
Carleiny Morillo contributed 18 assists and 12 digs, Sophia Nowacki recorded a team-high 14 digs, and Emma Pomaret added seven kills and 11 digs.
Although the Bucs did not get the result they wanted, the third-set response provided another glimpse of what the group is capable of as CBU continues through conference play.
