MJ Garnett enters his ninth season as head coach of the CBU men's and women's tennis teams. 

During his time at CBU, Garnett helped the Lady Bucs to their first earned qualifying spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament in program history. Garnett also coached two-time GSC Player of the Year Raquel Amaro. Amaro is the first CBU player to earn Player of the Year honors in program history. 

Amaro was also the first player in program history to earn First Team All-GSC honors. Amaro finished her junior season with a perfect 15-0 record, which included a win over Berta Bonardi, of West Florida, who was named GSC Player of the Decade. During her undefeated run, Amaro dropped just two sets. 

The same season, Esther Guemes earned Second Team All-GSC honors, marking the first time in team history that more than one Lady Buc was named to an All-Conference team in the same year. 

The last individual honor for a CBU women's tennis team member was when Lauren Woog earned second team laurels in 2016.

Under Garnett, CBU has also had its first three GSC All-Academic Team honorees in program history (Guemes, Amaro, Jojo Sandoz).

As a player, the Coral Springs, Fla. native was a three-time GSC champion at Jacksonville State, is the Director of Tennis at Windyke Country Club. As a player, Garnett reached the 1991 NCAA Division II doubles finals, and was the USPTA Southern Player of the Year in 2005. As a player, Garnett has appeared in six national finals NCAA/USTA/USPTA

He has been named USPTA Tennessee Professional of the Year (2007), USPTA Tennessee College Coach of the Year (2017), USPTA Southern College Coach of the Year (2018) and USTA Tennessee Professional of the Year (2008). 

Garnett lives in Collierville with his wife, Jill, and four daughters.
