Lady Bucs Win Fifth Straight

CBU tops UIS in four

Jenna Cherry's 14 kills, 12 digs, and six blocks helped the Lady Bucs to a 3-1 win over Illinois-Springfield Saturday afternoon.
MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs ran their winning streak to five matches as they rolled to a four-set win over visiting Illinois-Springfield Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (12-4) were resilient throughout the match, finding themselves behind in the first two sets before rallying to win them and take control. In the opening set, the Lady Bucs dug themselves a 14-7 hole early before tying it at 15 on their way to a 25-20 win. The second set was more of the same, falling behind 4-0, but they rallied to win 25-21. UIS (5-9) took the third set 25-21, but the Lady Bucs jumped out to an 18-8 lead on their way to a 25-15 win in the final set.

Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) led the Lady Bucs with 14 kills and six blocks, while Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) added 13 kills. Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) had 40 assists, and Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) added a team-high 14 digs.

The Lady Bucs will open Gulf South Conference West Division play Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when they host Henderson State.
