CLEVELAND, Miss.—Host Delta State completed a four-game sweep of the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs as they swept a doubleheader from the Lady Bucs 5-1 and 7-3 Sunday afternoon at DSU's University Field.
The Lady Statesmmen (17-10, 6-2 GSC) broke through first in the third inning, turning a pair of doubles into a run. After the Lady Bucs (10-12, 2-8) tied the game in the top of the fourth when
Alyse Brewer (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) singled and scored on a two-out error, Brooke Allgood homered to put the Lady Statesmen ahead for good.
Allgood hit a two-run double in the fifth, and a pair of CBU errors led to the game's final run in the bottom of the sixth, giving DSU the final 5-1 margin.
In the nightcap, the Lady Bucs would jump out to an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first.
Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) hit a one-out single. After moving to second on a groundout, she scored on Brewer's single to right field. Brewer scored when Dunn ripped a double to left, giving the Lady Bucs a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Statesmen scored in their final four innings at the plate to retake the lead and put the game away. They scored twice in the third, twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, and twice more in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-2.
The Lady Bucs scored the game's final run in the top of the seventh as
Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a throwing error on a
Shanae Farrell (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven HS) sacrifice bunt.
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play Tuesday night as they face Rhodes at Collierville High School at 5 p.m.
