CONWAY, Ark.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs were swept 6-5 and 5-0 in their season-opening doubleheader at Central Baptist Tuesday afternoon.
In the opener,
Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS) singled home
Alana Kramer (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) to put the Lady Bucs (0-2) on the board first in the top of the second. That combination pushed the lead to 2-0 an inning later as Kramer singled and Dorsett doubled her home.
The Mustangs (4-0) answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending 10 batters to the plate as they had three hits, three walks, and an error in the inning. After
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) doubled and
Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) singled her home in the top of the fifth, teh Mustangs scored two more in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Christen Kirchner.
The Lady Bucs set the final margin with a pair of two-out runs in the seventh as King singled
Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) home and scored on an error.
King went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead the CBU offense. Kramer went 2-for-3 with two runs and Dorsett went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) went three and a third innings in her first CBU start, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks. She struck out eight.
Leigh Ann Henry (Nashville, Tenn./David Lipscomb HS) walked six and struck out six as she gave up a pair of runs in two and two-third innings.
In the nightcap, Arkansas Tech transfer Casey Hammons dominated for the Mustangs, allowing just one hit and two walks as she tossed a 12-strikeout shutout. Kramer's second-inning single was the Lady Bucs' only hit.
CBC scored a run in the second and fourth innings, and they put it away with a three-run fifth inning.
Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits and three walks in her debut. She struck out eight in six innings.
The Lady Bucs make their home opener tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they host Union for a doubleheader.
