Lady Bucs Rally For Sweep Over Cumberland

Alana Kramer went 5-for-5 with two runs and five RBI as the Lady Bucs swept a doubleheader from Cumberland Thursday afternoon at Bland Field.
MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs used a big third inning in both games as they swept Thursday's non-conference doubleheader with Cumberland 5-3 and 8-3.

In the opener, the Lady Bucs (10-8) trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom of the third.  Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) led off with an infield single, and Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) followed with a double to right.  Alana Kramer (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) drove them both in with a single to center, giving the Lady Bucs the lead for good.

They would add to that lead with three unearned runs in the fifth on just one hit, two errors, and a walk.  Kramer again delivered the big blow with a two-run single.  Kramer finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Ambers scored twice.

The Bulldogs (5-10) scored twice in the top of the seventh, but Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) stranded two runners to preserve her fourth win, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk in seven innings.  She struck out six.

In the second game, Cumberland jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, but Kramer started a two-run second inning with a leadoff walk.  After two more walks loaded the bases, a sacrifice fly and an infield groundout cut the lead to one run.

The Lady Bucs picked up where they left off in the third, scoring four times on a walk and consecutive singles by Kramer, Brooke Davis (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS), and Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS).

They tacked on two more in the fourth to set the final margin at 8-3 as Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) stole home and Kramer hit an RBI single.

Nelson and Kramer collected two hits each in the game.  Brewer and Dorsett each drove in two, while Kramer and Davis scored twice.  Brewer picked up the win, tossing five shutout innings out of the bullpen on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

The Lady Bucs open Gulf South Conference play tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Arkansas Tech, with another doubleheader with ATU set for 10 a.m. Saturday.  The Lady Bucs' series against Henderson State has been rescheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 23-24, with both games at 2 p.m.  The Lady Bucs' game scheduled at Rhodes March 24 was moved to Collierville High School on April 6 at 6 p.m.
