MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split their first Gulf South Conference doubleheader of the season Friday afternoon against Arkansas Tech, winning the first game 6-1 but dropping the nightcap 6-4.
The Lady Bucs (11-9, 1-1 GSC) struck first in the first game as
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) hit a second-inning double and scored on a
Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS) single. They took control in the third, scoring three runs on four straight hits to start the inning.
Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) singled, and
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) and
Alana Kramer (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) smoked back-to-back doubles.
Brooke Davis (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) followed with a single to score Kramer and put CBU in front 4-0.
After ATU (12-12, 2-4) scored a run in the fifth, the Lady Bucs tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth on a
Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) single to set the final margin.
Ambers went 3-for-4 in the game, while Kramer also had two hits and scored twice. Keaton picked up two RBI. Brewer improved to 5-3 as she allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks. She struck out three in the complete game victory.
In the second game, ATU jumped out to a lead in the top of the first, scoring on a wild pitch. Keaton tied the game back up in the bottom of the second as she blasted a homer to left. ATU retook the lead in the top of the third on a Roxie Palacios double, but the Lady Bucs tied it again in the fifth as
Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) laid down a bunt single and scored on a King single.
ATU capitalized on three errors in the sixth, extending the inning to leadoff hitter Tiphani Moon, who hit a three-run double to break the tie.

Shanae Farrell (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven HS) in the sixth to cut the lead back to two runs. ATU's Whitlee McGill homered in the seventh, and the Lady Bucs scored once in the seventh on a Davis single to set the final margin at 6-4.
Nelson went 2-for-4 for the Lady Bucs in game two.
The Lady Bucs face ATU again Saturday to complete the four-game series. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
