MEMPHIS—Visiting Arkansas Tech swept a pair of close games from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon at Bland Field, claiming a come-from-behind 2-1 win in the opener and winning the nightcap 5-2.
In the opener, ATU (14-12, 4-4 GSC) scored two runs on a two-out Sarah Taylor double to left in the sixth inning, capping a two-out rally. Dana Stephenson tripled to right-center to start the threat, and Taylor Gates followed with a walk to set up the eventual game-winner from Taylor.
The Lady Bucs (11-11, 1-3) had struck first in the bottom of the first inning as
Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) reached on an error and scored on a two-out
Brooke Davis (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) single.
Davis and
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) each went 2-for-3 for the Lady Bucs in the game.
In the nightcap, ATU scored three in the first inning as Tiphani Moon walked to start the game. She moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a pair of sacrifice bunts. Amy Kilpatrick singled, and Gates blasted a two-run homer off the left-field scoreboard to give ATU a 3-0 lead early.
Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) got the Lady Bucs off to a good start as she beat out a bunt single and scored when
Alana Kramer (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) reached on an error with two out.
Both teams scored in the fourth, with ATU scoring on a Jessica Fields squeeze bunt and the Lady Bucs answering as
Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS) singled home
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS).
ATU tacked on another run in the seventh as Stephenson doubled and scored on a Roxie Palacios single to set the final margin at 5-2 ATU.
Nelson, Davis, and Brewer collected two hits each for the Lady Bucs.
The Lady Bucs will return to action Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they face Henderson State in a GSC doubleheader.
