DECATUR, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs wrapped up the annual Gulf South Conference Crossover Sunday with a 10-2 loss to No. 11 Alabama-Huntsville and a 4-0 loss to North Alabama.
In the first game, the Lady Chargers (32-7, 17-1 GSC) scored three in the first inning and six in the second to put the game away early.
After another UAH run in the top of the fourth, the Lady Bucs (16-26, 5-17) scored in the bottom of the inning on singles by
Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS),
Brooke Davis (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), and
Jessica DiVittorio (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) along with a two-base error.
Ambers and
Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) each went 2-for-2 in the game.
In the second game, North Alabama (22-25, 9-15) capitalized on nine walks and two hit batters as they won 4-0. CBU pitcher
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) pitched her way out of trouble repeatedly, stranding 13 UNA runners and never allowing more than one run in an inning as she kept the Lady Bucs within striking distance. UNA scored their runs in the first, second, fifth, and sixth innings.
The Lady Bucs' offense struggled to capitalize on chances, loading the bases with one out in the first inning and not scoring, and they stranded runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Alyse Brewer (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) went 2-for-2, while Kaylea Brewer,
Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS), and
Brooke Davis (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) each singled.
The Lady Bucs return to action next weekend as they visit Southern Arkansas for a GSC West series. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 3 p.m., with a Sunday doubleheader at noon.
