No. 2 VSU Shuts Out Lady Bucs 4-0

Alyse Brewer hit a single in the seventh inning Thursday afternoon to break up a perfect game bid by No. 2 Valdosta State's Holly Satterfield. VSU won 4-0.
DECATUR, Ala.—No. 2 Valdosta State scored four runs in the third inning and pitcher Holly Satterfield narrowly missed a perfect game as the Lady Blazers won 4-0 over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday afternoon in the first game of the annual Gulf South Conference Crossover at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Ala.

The Lady Blazers (27-4) put five straight runners on to start the bottom of the third to push three runs across, and a squeeze bunt extended the lead to 4-0.  VSU posted three singles and two walks to go with an error in the inning.

Satterfield (15-2) dominated in the circle, retiring 19 straight Lady Bucs and not allowing a ball out of the infield until Alyse Brewer (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) singled to left with one out in the seventh.  She finished the game one batter later on a double play, finishing with nine strikeouts in the one-hit shutout.

Leigh Ann Henry (Nashville, Tenn./David Lipscomb HS) tossed the first three innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and three walks.  Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) threw three shutout innings of relief, allowing three hits and two walks as she struck out four.

The Lady Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on West Georgia at 2 p.m. in the second day of the Crossover.
