MEMPHIS—Visiting Central Baptist swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Wednesday afternoon, winning the opener 10-1 before edging CBU 6-4 in game two.
In the opener, CBC (12-0) strung two singles and two doubles together to push three runs across in the top of the third to take control. They added two more in the fourth on a walk, a single, and a double.
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) scored the Lady Bucs' (1-5) lone run in the first game as she led off the fourth with a bunt single and came home on a
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) triple.
The Lady Mustangs got the run back in the fifth with a double and a single, and a four-run seventh set the final margin.
Joiner was 2-for-3 in the game for the Lady Bucs. King,
Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), and
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) each collected a single.
In the second game, the Lady Bucs struck first when
Emily Schmidt (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) launched a solo homer to left-center in the bottom of the second inning. A three run Kayla Lucas homer put CBC back in front for good in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the inning,
Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch, but a single and a triple for CBC in the top of the fifth restored their two-run edge. Story singled and scored on a Joiner single in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead back to 4-3.
A homer and an RBI single in the top of the seventh gave CBC a commanding 6-3 edge. The Lady Bucs scored once in the final frame as Ambers drew a one-out walk and scored on an error after another Joiner single.
Joiner went 2-for-2 in the game, while Ambers was 2-for-3 with two runs.
The Lady Bucs conclude their six-game homestand Saturday afternoon when they host Williams Baptist for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
