No. 11 Cotton Blossoms Sweep Lady Bucs 9-0, 11-4

Kathleen Nelson homered in the Lady Bucs' 11-4 loss to No. 11 Arkansas-Monticello Sunday afternoon in the second game of a doubleheader. UAM won the first game 9-0.
MEMPHIS—No. 11 Arkansas-Monticello continued their dominant hitting, scoring 20 runs as they swept the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 9-0 and 11-4 Sunday afternoon to complete a series sweep of the Lady Bucs.

In the opener, the Cotton Blossoms (21-1, 4-0 GSC West) scored all the runs they would need in the fourth inning as they scored twice on an error with the bases loaded.  They added five in the fifth on two hits, a walk, three hit batters, and an error.  They set the final margin an inning later with two more runs on two hits, two walks, and a hit batter.

UAM starter Kayla Jackson moved to 12-0 as she allowed only three baserunners -- fifth-inning singles from Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) and Kim Adams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), and Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.

In the second game, the Cotton Blossoms scored five runs in the second inning to take a quick lead.  The Lady Bucs (6-11, 0-4) would get on the board in the bottom of the inning as Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) homered to center.

UAM scored five more iin the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.  The Lady Bucs scored twice in the fifth inning on two hits, a walk, a hit batter, and an error.  After UAM scored another run in the sixth inning, the Lady Bucs set the final margin in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff homer by Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS).

Joiner, Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS), and Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS) collected two hits each for the Lady Bucs in the game.

The Lady Bucs hit the road next weekend to visit Henderson State in a four-game GSC West series.  Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., with Sunday's twinbill set for a noon start.
