Golden Suns Sweep Lady Bucs

Casey King singled and scored in the fifth inning of game one, but the Lady Bucs were swept 2-1 and 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Arkansas Tech.
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.—Host Arkansas Tech swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, claiming a 2-1 comeback win in the opener and winning 3-0 in the second game.

In the first game, the Lady Bucs (12-30, 5-23 GSC) scored the game's first run in the fifth inning as Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) singled to center and came home on a Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS) double.  The Lady Bucs put a runner on base in each of the first four innings, but they hit into three double plays and had a runner caught stealing before Dorsett's double broke up the shutout.

Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) and Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) made the lead hold up until the game's final batter.  They had shut out the GSC West's first place team on three hits and a walk before Molly Edwards drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh.  Tiphani Moon followed with a two-run walk-off homer to left-center, delivering the win for the Golden Suns (33-17, 23-7).

King went 2-for-3 for the Lady Bucs, while Dorsett, Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), and Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) each collected one hit.

In the second game, ATU's Alex Doyle held the Lady Bucs to a pair of Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) singles and a walk as she tossed a shutout.

Nelson led the game off with a single and moved to third on a pair of sacrifices.  King drew a walk, but a lineout ended the threat.

ATU's Hayley Hudson hit solo homers in the second and fourth innings to give the Golden Suns a 2-0 lead, and they tacked on another run in the fourth on two singles, a walk, and a double-steal.

Nelson singled and stole second with one out in the sixth inning.  Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) reached on an error, but a pair of flyouts ended the threat.

The loss ended the CBU careers of King, Nelson, Ambers, and Brewer.
