DECATUR, Ala.—No. 4 Valdosta State scored three runs in each of the final three innings as they claimed a 9-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday in the first game of the Gulf South Conference Crossover.
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) started strong for the Lady Bucs (8-20, 2-13 GSC), retiring 13 of the first 15 batters as she kept VSU (21-4, 10-3) off the board until two out in the fifth inning. With two out, however, a walk and a single kept the inning alive for Sarah Vaughn, who blasted a pinch-hit three-run homer.
Four walks and a double created three more runs in the sixth, and the Blazers set the final margin in the seventh when they scored three runs on two walks, a triple, and a single.
Meanwhile, the Lady Bucs were unable to solve VSU hurler Holly Satterfield, who scattered five hits and two walks on a seven-strikeout shutout. Brewer paced the Lady Bucs' offense, as she went 2-for-3, while
Kim Adams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS),
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS), and #Marie Joiner each hit a single.
The Lady Bucs continue GSC Crossover play tomorrow afternoon. They face Lambuth at 2 p.m. before taking on West Georgia at 4 p.m.
