DECATUR, Ala.—After winning a pair of games Friday in the Gulf South Conference Crossover, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs' bats couldn't keep up Saturday afternoon as they lost 10-1 to West Florida and 12-6 to West Alabama.
In Saturday's first game, the Argos (18-14, 7-9 GSC) scored in five of six innings, including a pair of runs on a walk, a hit batter, and a single in the top of the first. Three singles brought in a run in the top of the second before the Lady Bucs (10-22, 4-15) broke through in the bottom of the second as
Emily Schmidt (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) walked and scored on a
Kim Adams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) single.
The Argos added two in the third inning, one in the fourth, and four in the sixth as they pulled away for the win.
Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) paced the Lady Bucs' offense as she went 2-for-2 in the leadoff spot.
In the second game, the Tigers (25-12, 5-10) jumped out to an early lead as they scored two runs on a walk, a double, an error, and a single in the top of the first. The Lady Bucs answered in a big way in the bottom of the frame. A walk and a hit batter set the stage for a
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) two-run double. Three more walks, an error, and a passed ball brought three more runs home as the Lady Bucs took a 5-2 lead.
An inning later, Story reached on a leadoff bunt single and scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 6-2. The Tigers began their rally in the top of the third, scoring three on a walk, two singles, and a double to pull within a run.
They tied it with a run in the fourth. Two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth put it awayfor the UWA victory, as the Lady Bucs failed to move a runner past second base after the second inning.
King went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Story scored twice.
The Lady Bucs wrap up their GSC Crossover schedule tomorrow. They take on top-ranked Alabama-Huntsville at 10 a.m. before facing North Alabama at 2 p.m.
