Box Score 2 WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.—After dropping 3-2 a nine-inning heartbreaker in game one, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs blanked host Williams Baptist 4-0 in the second game of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader.
In game two, which was played under protest, the Lady Bucs (9-15) took an early lead when
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) blasted a two-out, two-run homer to right after an error kept the inning alive. Joiner tacked on another two-out run in the third inning when she hit an RBI single to score
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS), who had reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) single to left. Gracia set the final margin in the fourth as she hit an RBI single to center to score
Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), who was hit by a pitch to start the inning.
Meanwhile, starter
Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) kept the Eagles (25-6) off balance, holding them scoreless for six innings on three hits and two walks.
Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) tossed a scoreless seventh to preserve the victory. Joiner went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Gracia was 2-for-4.
In the first game, the Eagles scored early to take the lead, taking advantage of a two-out error to score a run in the first and using a pair of singles to add a run in the second.
The Eagles' 2-0 lead held until the fifth, when Joiner singled and scored when Story reached on an error. The Lady Bucs tied it in the sixth as
Olivia Kegler (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) led the inning off with a single. Gracia moved pinch runner
Lorin Raines (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) to second with a bunt single, but a double play nearly ended the threat. But
Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) singled to left and Joiner was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gonzalez singled to center, scoring Raines. Rosa-Ramon was tagged out at the plate trying to score and was ejected for not avoiding a collision.
The score remained tied at 2 into the ninth, with each team leaving runners on second and third in the eighth. In the ninth, the Lady Bucs lost another runner at the plate trying to score on a flyout to left, and the Eagles broke the tie in the bottom of the inning. Two walks, along with the international tiebreaker runner, loaded the bases with one out, and Tori Henson singled to center to end it.
Six different Lady Bucs singled in the first game.
The Eagles protested game two after Rosa-Ramon batted in the first inning, claiming that her ejection in game one carried an automatic suspension based on rule 13.2 and therefore the Lady Bucs played an ineligible player in game two. The ejection was based on rule 12.14, however, which carries no automatic suspension.
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., when they open an eight-game homestand with a doubleheader against No. 1 Valdosta State. They also play Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against West Georgia.
