Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—No. 22 Alabama-Huntsville scored runs in eight of 12 innings as they cruised to an 8-0, 9-1 doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon.
In the opener, the Chargers (35-12, 17-7 GSC) scored in five of the six innings, taking an early lead with two runs in the first and a run in the second. They added single tallies in the fourth and fifth before ending the game with three runs in the sixth.
UAH hurler Whitney Gilbert blanked the Lady Bucs on four singles and two walks with six strikeouts.
In game two, the Lady Bucs (11-25, 6-16) struck first, when
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) reached on an error and scored on a
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) single to left. The Lady Bucs' 1-0 lead lasted until the third inning, when the Chargers scored three runs on two doubles, a single, and a walk. They tacked on five in the fifth and another run in the sixth to set the final margin.
Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the second game, as UAH pitcher Whitney Toler held the Lady Bucs to one unearned run on three hits.
The Lady Bucs return to action Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they visit Delta State for a doubleheader.
