Box Score 2 MEMPHIS—Host Delta State used a two-run rally in its last inning in each game to hand the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs a pair of one-run losses Wednesday afternoon, 3-2 in the first game and 2-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Lady Statesmen (22-27, 9-15 GSC) struck first in the third inning, when a walk, a single, and a groundout created a run. The Lady Bucs (11-27, 6-18) took the lead in the fifth inning.
Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) drew a leadoff walk, and
Allyson Grooms (Buena Vista, Tenn./Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central HS) followed with a single. After a sacrifice bunt,
Kim Adams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) hit a grounder to second, but the throw home was too late, allowing pinch-runner
Lorin Raines (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) to score.
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) followed with an RBI single to score Grooms and give the Lady Bucs a 2-1 lead.
The lead held until the bottom of the sixth, when DSU scored twice on a walk, a double, an error, and a single.
Joiner went 3-for-4 in the game for the Lady Bucs. Adams took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs despite holding DSU to five hits and two walks.
In game two, the Lady Bucs broke up a scoreless tie in the sixth after the first five innings saw just three total hits, one by CBU.
Allyson Grooms (Buena Vista, Tenn./Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central HS) was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth. After she stole second, an
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) bunt single moved her to third base. Rosa-Ramon followed with an RBI double to the gap in left-center.
After
Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) sailed through the first six innings allowing just two singles and a walk, she ran into trouble in the seventh. DSU's Taylor Holland led off with a single through the left side and tied the game on a Katie Hebert double to center. After Adams relieved her after the double, a wild pitch brought Hebert to third, and a sacrifice bunt by Kendall Sizemore scored the winning run.
For the game, Wade allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in six and a third innings. Rosa-Ramon was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Lady Bucs' offense.
The Lady Bucs travel to the Peach State this weekend. They visit No. 1 Valdosta State for a 1 p.m. twinbill Saturday before visiting West Georgia Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season at home next Wednesday when they host Blue Mountain at 2 p.m.
