Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga.—Top-ranked Valdosta State cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, remaining perfect in Gulf South Conference play as the second game was called off due to rain.
In the opener, the Blazers (42-2, 25-0 GSC) dominated from the start. In the bottom of the first, they scored twice after a costly two-out error. THey added two more in the second on two walks, a single, and a double, and they extended their lead to 6-0 on a two-run Morgan Johnson homer in the fourth. A three-run Clare Wamsley double in the fifth ended the game at 9-0.
On the other side, VSU starter Alana Hadley (22-1) narrowly missed a perfect game, retiring the first 12 Lady Bucs (11-28, 6-19) without the ball leaving the infield until
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) led off the fifth with a single. She retired the next three batters in order to complete the one-hitter.
The Lady Bucs visit West Georgia tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. They play their final home game of the season Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they host Blue Mountain.
