Lady Bucs Swept in GSC Tournament Debut

Nikki Story went 4-for-5, but the Lady Bucs lost 9-1 to No. 23 Alabama-Huntsville and 7-0 to West Florida in the GSC Tournament Friday afternoon.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SOUTHAVEN—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs lost 9-1 to No. 23 Alabama-Huntsville and 7-0 to West Florida in their first-ever trip to the Gulf South Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at Greenbrook Park.

In the opener, the second-seeded Chargers (40-12) scored a run each in the first and third innings before blowing their lead wide open with a three-run Kathryn Whitlock homer in the fourth inning.  The Lady Bucs (14-31) cut the UAH lead to 5-1 in the sixth, when Allyson Grooms (Buena Vista, Tenn./Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central HS) singled, moved to third on a fielding error, and scored on a Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) sacrifice fly.  The Chargers ended the game with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth.

Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) went 2-for-2 in the game for the Lady Bucs.

In game two, the third-seeded Argos (33-23) scored three runs in the first and two in the second to take a commanding early lead.  After three scoreless innings from reliever Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS), they set the final margin with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.  McEachron allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks over five innings of relief.

Story and Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) each went 2-for-3 in game two.

The Lady Bucs' season ends at 14-31.  CBU bids farewell to one senior, Shanae Farrell (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven HS).
