Lynx Edge Lady Bucs 3-2

Emily Schmidt went 2-for-3 with a homer Wednesday, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 3-2 decision at Rhodes.
Box Score MEMPHIS–Host Rhodes used a three-run bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 3-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Bucs (11-20) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) doubled to left-center and scored on a one-out single by Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS). The 1-0 lead held until the fourth inning, when Emily Schmidt (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) hit a leadoff homer to left to give CBU a 2-0 edge.

After the Lady Bucs held Rhodes (21-12) to just four baserunners over the first six innings, the Lynx offense exploded in the seventh inning. They started the inning with four straight singles, with the final single plating two runs to tie the game at two. With runners on second and third with no out, a fielder's choice erased the lead runner in a rundown between third and home. But a wild pitch put runners back on second and third, and Rhodes' Megan Matthews hit an infield single to bring in the winning run.

Joiner, Schmidt, and Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) each collected two hits for the Lady Bucs. Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) threw five scorleess innings, allowing two hits and a walk against four strikeouts.

The Lady Bucs hit the road this weekend, visiting West Alabama for a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. and Alabama-Huntsville Sunday at 1 p.m. for another twinbill.
