Tigers Sweep Lady Bucs 3-0, 3-1

Amy Gracia went 3-for-6, but West Alabama swept the Lady Bucs 3-0 and 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LIVINGSTON, Ala.–Host West Alabama swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs, winning the opener 3-0 and claiming a 3-1 win in the second game.

In the opener, UWA (25-16, 12-14 GSC) scored the only run it would need in the second inning with a bases-loaded infield single with two out after loading the bases with one out on two singles and a walk. They tacked on two more in the sixth when Whitney Brown hit a two-run homer.

UWA pitcher Sarah Ray shut the Lady Bucs (11-22, 7-19) out, allowing two hits and two walks against five strikeouts.

The Lady Bucs struck first in the second game. Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) started the game with a bunt single and moved to second on a Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) sacrifice bunt. Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) hit an RBI single to left to give the Lady Bucs the early lead. UWA took the lead for good with two in the third on two singles and a double, and they set the final margin with an unearned run in the fifth inning on a two-out error.

Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) went 2-for-3 in the game.

The Lady Bucs return to action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they visit Alabama-Huntsville.
