Chargers Sweep Lady Bucs

Bianca Cowan went 2-for-6, but the Lady Bucs were swept at Alabama-Huntsville Sunday afternoon.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–Host Alabama-Huntsville swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon at Charger Park, winning the first game 8-1 before claiming a 5-2 win in the second game.

The Chargers (32-13, 21-6 GSC) scored single runs in each of the first three innings in the first game, and they added two in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. In the sixth, the Lady Bucs (11-24, 7-21) scored their first run of the game. Singles by Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) and Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) started the inning, but they were both put out on fielder's choices. Tiari-Jay Fernandez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS) scored on a two-out single by Sammi Canizaro (Nesbit, Miss./Horn Lake HS).

UAH tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to set the final margin.

Canizaro went 2-for-3 in the game for the Lady Bucs.

In the second game, the Lady Bucs struck first, as Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) led off with a double to left and scored on a two-out single by Fernandez. UAH answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. They added two more in the third and one in the sixth. The Lady Bucs scored again in the top of the seventh as Bianca Cowan (Byhalia, Miss./Center Hill HS) singled, moved to second on an error, and came home on a Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) single.

The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit West Florida.
