Bucs Douse Flames 2-0

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs moved back into a tie for first place in the Gulf South Conference standings Friday night as they won 2-0 over Lee at Signaigo Field for their seventh straight victory.

Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) opened the scoring for the Bucs (12-2, 6-1 GSC) in the 25th minute as he scored off a cross from Diego Silva Vieira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pitagoras).

Neither team could find the net again until the waning seconds, when Alejandro Chinas Lopez (Edo Mexico, Mexico/Mira Costa HS) fed a throughball to Kevin Tikhomiroff (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Complexo Eucacional Contemporaneo), and Tikhomiroff fired a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box into the left side of the net past the goalkeeper with 14 seconds remaining in the game.

The Bucs out-shot Lee 17-9 for the game, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made four saves in the game, including a pair of diving stops in the final 17 minutes to preserve his sixth shutout of the season.

With the win, the Bucs moved into a tie with No. 22 Alabama-Huntsville for first place in the GSC with 18 points. West Alabama is third with 15 points, and Shorter is in fourth place with 12 points.

CBU plays its final home game of the season Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. as they host Shorter. They wrap up the GSC slate at Union Friday night at 7:15 p.m.
