Argos Outlast Lady Bucs in Four

MEMPHIS-Visiting West Florida snapped the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs' four-match Gulf South Conference winning streak Friday night as they knocked off CBU in four sets.

The Argos (18-6, 11-3 GSC) took control early in the first set, building a 9-4 lead and stretching it to as many as nine points in a 25-17 win. The Lady Bucs (12-12, 9-6) returned the favor in the second set. They built a 15-9 lead and survived a UWF comeback as they won 25-21 to even the match. UWF regained control quickly in the third set, taking early leads of 5-1, 7-2 and 10-4. The Lady Bucs fought back into the set with a six-point run, tying it at 10, but UWF answered with a four-point run of their own and pulled away to a 25-16 win in the set. The fourth set was nearly identical to the third. UWF built a 6-1 lead, but the Lady Bucs cut the deficit to 11-10. UWF used a four-point run to assert control again, and they never allowed CBU closer than two points again in a 25-18 win.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 15 kills to go with 10 digs. Demi Chipman (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) notched 22 digs, while Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) collected 13 digs with eight kills. Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) had 34 assists.

Katy Kuhlmeier led the Argos with 16 kills and 19 digs, while Monique StCyr added 38 assists, 15 digs and eight kills.

The Lady Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. as they celebrate Senior Day against Valdosta State.
