MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs knocked off Mississippi College in three sets Tuesday night in their final home match of the season.
After falling behind 5-4, the Lady Bucs (14-12, 11-6 GSC) scored eight of the next nine points to take a 12-6 lead, and they never allowed MC (5-21, 0-16) closer than two points again in a 25-20 win in the first set. CBU jumped to a 10-4 lead in the second set en route to a 25-17 win, and they completed the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set, finishing strong after MC scored six straight to tie the set at 14 after a 14-8 CBU lead.
Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) paced the CBU offense with 10 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, while
Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) pounded nine kills with four blocks, hitting .500.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) notched a match-best 12 digs and three aces to go with eight kills.
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) dished out 22 assists in two sets.
Ashton King led the Lady Choctaws with nine kills. Meredith Williams had 14 assists, and Sydney Chandler added a team-high 10 digs to her 13 assists.
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play for the final time Thursday night as they visit Henderson State at 6 p.m. They wrap up the regular season with three GSC road matches next week, at Union Tuesday night, at Lee Friday night and at Shorter Saturday afternoon.
