MEMPHIS-Visiting West Alabama remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play as they scored on an own goal in the 87th minute for the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon at Signaigo Field.
After nearly finishing regulation scoreless, the Tigers (9-1, 5-0 GSC) earned a free kick near midfield in the 87th minute. UWA served the free kick into the top left corner of the 18-yard box, but no UWA players were there to try to convert. A CBU (8-2, 3-2) defender tried to head the ball clear of the net, but the header carried over goalkeeper
Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) and stayed just inside the right post for the game's only goal. CBU was unable to take a shot in the final three minutes after the goal.
For the game, each team took eight shots, with UWA holding a 3-1 edge in shots on goal. Wade made two saves, while UWA goalkeeper Issy Foster made one.
The Lady Bucs' makeup game with Rhodes scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled. CBU will return to action Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. as they visit Delta State. Their next home game is set for Friday, Oct. 17, as they host North Alabama.
