ANCHORAGE, Alaska-Host Alaska-Anchorage used a 17-0 run midway through the first half to take control as they pulled away to an 88-43 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night in the first women's basketball game ever played at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The first six minutes were back-and-forth, with an
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) layup bringing the Lady Bucs to a 9-9 tie with 15:22 remaining in the half. After a UAA (3-0) basket,
Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) sank a free throw to pull CBU within an 11-10 margin with 13:57 remaining. The Seawolves went on a 17-0 run, taking a 28-10 lead with 8:07 remaining in the half, and CBU never came closer than 16 again.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) paced the Lady Bucs with 22 points, and Reeves scored seven with four rebounds and four steals.
Leah Bonner led the Seawolves with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Jessica Madison had 18 points. KeKe Wright scored 11 with seven rebounds, and Kiki Robertson dished out 15 assists with six points and five steals.
The Lady Bucs shot just 27.1 percent (13-of-48) for the game and committed a season-high 31 turnovers. UAA shot 51.5 percent (34-of-66) overall. The Seawolves out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 43-24, including a 17-7 edge in offensive rebounds.
CBU and UAA meet again tomorrow night at 10:30 p.m. The Lady Bucs' next home game is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11, as they host Delta State at 5 p.m.
