MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs snaped a decade-long losing streak against Delta State Thursday night as they rolled to a 61-40 win over DSU in their first home Gulf South Conference game of the season.
The Lady Bucs (3-5, 1-2 GSC) opened the game on a 12-4 run, capped by an
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) three-pointer with 11:34 remining in the half, and they never trailed. An 8-0 burst late in the first half extended the CBU lead to 29-16 on a
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) jumper, and they never allowed Delta State (3-4, 1-2) closer than nine points again.
CBU led by as many as 23 points in the final minutes.
Ridgell scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored 14, and Reeves added 12.
Chelsey Rhodes led DSU with 14 points, and Rhandi Ball added 12.
The Lady Bucs shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) for the game while holding DSU to 36.7 percent (18-of-49). CBU out-rebounded the Lady Statesmen 36-31, including a 6-5 edge in offensive rebounds, and they forced 12 DSU turnovers while committing 10.
The win was the Lady Bucs' first over Delta State since Feb. 23, 2004, when they won 62-57 at CBU. The Lady Bucs had lost 23 straight to DSU before tonight's win.
CBU returns to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Mississippi College.
