Lady Choctaws Top Cold Lady Bucs 56-45

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs shot just 31.7 percent in a 56-45 loss to Mississippi College Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

After CBU (3-6, 1-3 GSC) scored first, the Lady Choctaws (5-3, 1-3) went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-2 lead on a Lauren Bethly layup with 13:37 remaining in the first half, and they never trailed again.

The Lady Bucs used a 12-2 run to battle back to a 32-all tie on a Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) basket with 10:41 remaining, but MC salted the game away with a 13-2 run of their own, capped by an Ashley Minor layup that gave them a 45-34 lead with just 3:29 remaining. The Lady Bucs trimmed the deficit to five points but could not come any closer.

Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) led the Lady Bucs with nine points, while Pugh and Erin Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Overton HS) scored eight each.

Allie Hill led the Lady Choctaws with 17 points. Ashley Minor scored 15, and Kristen Sampson added 10.

The Lady Choctaws shot 35.4 percent (17-of-48) to the Lady Bucs' 31.7 percent (20-of-63), and they shot 40 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range while CBU finished just 11.8 percent (2-of-17). MC also shot 84.2 percent (16-of-19) at the charity stripe while CBU was just 42.9 percent (3-of-7). The Lady Choctaws out-rebounded CBU 46-31, including a 15-14 edge in offensive boards, and CBU forced 25 MC turnovers while committing 16.

The Lady Bucs return to action Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host West Georgia.
