No. 20/17 Bucs Shoot Down Choctaws 77-70

MEMPHIS-The No. 20/17 Christian Brothers University Bucs moved to 3-1 in Gulf South Conference play with a 77-70 win over Mississippi College Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The Choctaws (2-4, 0-4) led for much of the first half after building an early 12-6 lead. The Bucs (5-2, 3-1 GSC) went on a 21-3 run capped by a Jordan Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) three-pointer that gave them a 29-17 lead with 5:40 remaining, but MC ended the half on a 13-2 run to close within a point before halftime.

The Choctaws scored the first three points of the second half to regain the lead, but the Bucs regained the lead for good when Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) set up a Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) basket and a Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) three-pointer on back-to-back possessions, giving CBU a 46-41 lead with 14:26 remaining.

Charlie Oswald (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) scored a game-high 16 points off the bench for the Bucs, while Sall and Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 15 each, with Casey adding four steals and Sall grabbing seven boards. Larkin scored 11, and Fleming added 10 to his game-high 13 assists.

Stacey Mack paced the Choctaws with 15 points and eight rebounds. Johnny Rucker scored 13, and Tory Rice added 10.

The Bucs shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) for the game, while MC shot 54.2 percent (26-of-48). The Chocaws out-rebounded CBU 27-19, but the Bucs forced 22 turnovers and committed 16.

The Bucs return to action Thursday night at 7 p.m. as they host West Georgia.
