No. 25 Harding Tops Lady Bucs 69-42

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs held No. 25 Harding to one of their coldest shooting games of the season, but Harding won 69-42 over the Lady Bucs Wednesday afternoon at Canale Arena in the final non-conference game of the season for both schools.

Harding (9-2) scored first and never trailed, taking an 8-2 lead early, but the Lady Bucs (4-8) used a Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) layup and a pair of Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) free throws to trim the deficit to 12-8 with 9:08 remaining in the first half. The Lady Bisons outscored CBU 18-6 over the final nine minutes of the half, however, as they extended their lead to 30-14 at halftime.

CBU never came closer than 17 points in the second half as HU stretched the lead to as many as 31 points in the game's final minutes.

Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) paced the Lady Bucs with 11 points, adding six rebounds. Pugh scored eight with seven rebounds, and Erin Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Overton HS) scored seven with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Sydney Layrock led Harding with 16 points. Montana Lewis scored 11, while A'ndrea Haney and Arielle Saunders added 10 points each, with Saunders grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds with three blocks.

CBU held Harding to just 37.9 percent (22-of-58) for the game, their second-lowest percentage of the season and the lowest since shooting 36.0 percent (18-of-50) in their season-opening win over CBU in Searcy, Ark. Harding's 18.2 percent (4-of-22) three-point shooting was their lowest three-point percentage of the season. CBU shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57) for the game. Harding out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 46-36, including a 15-10 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 16 CBU turnovers while committing 11.

The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday night at 5 p.m. as they start a three-game GSC road trip at Valdosta State. Their next home game is Monday, Jan. 12, as they host Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m.
