Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, Ark.-Host Arkansas-Monticello swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning the season opener 9-1 before claiming a 2-0 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Blossoms (2-0) scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take command early. The first inning saw three runs on a single, a walk and two doubles. The Lady Bucs (0-2) shaved a run off the lead in the top of the second as
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) hit a two-out single, moved to third on a
Tiari-Jay Fernandez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS) single and an error, and scored on a
Bianca Cowan (Byhalia, Miss./Center Hill HS) infield single.
The Blossoms used a walk, a triple, a single and a pair of productive outs to push across three more in the second inning, and they added one in the fourth and two in the fifth to set the final margin.
The Lady Bucs' three consecutive two-out singles in the second inning were their only hits in the first game.
In game two,
Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) kept the Blossoms off the scoreboard for the first four innings before surrendering an unearned run in the fifth on a walk, a catchers interference and a single. UAM used a pair of one-out doubles in the bottom of the sixth to score again and set the final margin.
Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) reached base safely all three times in the second game, with a walk, a single and a double. Beekman allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and five walks over six innings.
The Lady Bucs hit the road again next Saturday at 1 p.m. as they visit Ouachita Baptist. Their home opener is set for Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. against Harding.
