Lady Statesmen Top CBU 10-2

Bianca Cowan singled and scored, but the Lady Bucs lost 10-2 at Delta State Sunday.
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.-For the second time in as many days, host Delta State used two big innings late in the game to pull away from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs in what had been a close game, winning 10-2 Sunday in a game that was tied 2-2 in the fourth inning.

The Lady Statesmen (11-12, 5-7 GSC) struck first with two runs in the second on a single and a one-out homer. The Lady Bucs (3-14, 1-9) answered with two of their own in the top of the third inning. Ali Hare (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) singled to right and moved to second on a passed ball. Bianca Cowan (Byhalia, Miss./Center Hill HS) laid down a bunt single and stole second. Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Hare, and Cowan scored on a squeeze bunt by Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) to tie the game at two.

But in the fourth inning, the Lady Statesmen exploded for four runs on five hits, a passed ball and an error. They ended the game with four more in the fifth inning on four hits and a passed ball.

DSU pitcher Macie Wilde held the Lady Bucs to three hits, with Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) also singling in the second inning before the hits by Hare and Cowan in the third.

The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday at noon as they visit Ouachita Baptist for a doubleheader rescheduled from Feb. 8. Their next home game is Saturday at 2 p.m., when they host North Alabama for a doubleheader.
