Lady Bucs Sweep OBU 3-1, 4-1

Ali Hare went 4-for-5 to help the Lady Bucs to a sweep of host Ouachita Baptist Tuesday afternoon.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs swept a doubleheader from host Ouachita Baptist Tuesday afternoon, winning the opener 3-1 and taking a 4-1 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Lady Bucs (5-13) struck in the top of the first when Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) singled, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) single.

Ouachita (8-16) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a double and two singles, but CBU pitcher Tiari-Jay Fernandez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS) pitched out of a jam, stranding the bases loaded to escape the inning tied 1-1.

Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) blasted a two-run homer to give CBU a 3-1 lead. Steagall came on in relief of Fernandez, tossing two scoreless innings as she pitched around two hits and an error to earn her first save.

Ali Hare (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) went 2-for-3 for the Lady Bucs. Fernandez (1-0) allowed one run on eight hits and a walk over five innings for the win, and Steagall struck out one against two hits in two innings for the save.

In game two, the Lady Bucs used a big fourth inning to take control. Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) walked, and pinch-runner Bianca Cowan (Byhalia, Miss./Center Hill HS) moved to second on a sacrifice and third on a wild pitch. Hare singled Cowan in, and Joiner hit a two-run single to center to give CBU a 3-0 cushion. An inning later, Rosa-Ramon hit an RBI double to score Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), who led off with a single.

OBU set the final margin with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a single and a double.

In game two, Hare went 2-for-2 and Gonzalez was 2-for-4. Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks in five innings, running her record to 2-7. Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) tossed two scoreless innings, allowing two hits, to earn her first save.

The Lady Bucs hit the road again Thursday as they visit Missouri-St. Louis for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. They return home Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. for a GSC doubleheader against North Alabama, with a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
